Information for Walkers Staying at Cary Fitzpaine House

Introduction:  There is plenty of walking around Cary Fitzpaine to suit all with itchy feet.  All guests are welcome to walk around our 500 acre arable farm; we have a wonderful wealth of wildlife to see, from duck, herons, egret, moorhen and kingfisher on the River Cary which runs right through the farm.  Also we have deer, hares and badgers on the farm. We are in very close proximity to an Otter Walk at Lytes Cary Manor (National Trust) 1 Mile from us.  Slightly further afield  within  a short driving distance we have lovely walking around Ham Hill and the surrounding beautiful hamstone villages, also around the Somerset Levels taking in plenty of historic sights along the way.  Cadbury Castle at South Cadbury is a wonderful local vantage point with some very ancient history, believed to be a home and form of King Arthur, there is some magnificent hill walking around the area of South Cadbury and Corton Denham too. Glastonbury Tor is a fifteen minute drive from Cary Fitzpaine.  The Quantock and Mendip hills are in easy range.  Also the Coastline around Lyme Regis and the surrounding areas are within an hour from us.

Information: We have lots of information for walkers in a folder in the lounge.  There are maps to plan routes and also many pre-prepared routes from short to long.  Many of these routes take in local attractions, historical sights, pubs and refreshment stops.  The Tourist Information Centre in Yeovil, 01935 845946
(www.visitsouthsomerset.com ) are also a very helpful and clued up gang who would be only to happy to help with advice.  There is a copy of the Countryside code in the bedrooms.  Also there is a print off of the local weather forecast for the week in each room to assist with plans!
Facilities At Cary Fitzpaine For Walkers: We are fully equipped with drying facilities for wet clothes and boots; we have hot and cold water and hoses for washing off.  We are also very happy to provide hot flasks (no charge), and packed lunches (from £5) for walkers.  And for those without transport who do not wish do go out in the evening we can provide either a snack supper (from £5) or a more substantial meal (pre-booking would be required – from £8).  Public Transport to Cary Fitzpaine is not available, buses regularly stop at Lydford on Fosse (3 miles), Charlton Adam (2 miles) and  Yeovilton – Buses from London Victoria – (3 Miles).  Our nearest Trains are Castle Cary (Bristol, Paddington Line) 8 miles.  Or Yeovil Junction (Salisbury, Waterloo Line) 8 Miles.  Our local taxi firm, John Cooke Transport Support 01458 241463 are very reasonable and helpful for any between journeys.

Accident and Emergency: Yeovil District Hospital.  Turn left onto A37 at the end of our road. Follow A37 to  Yeovil. The Hospital is on A37 and well-marked in Yeovil.

24 Hour Chemist: Boots Chemist, 01935454621, Babylon Hill, Yeovil (At end of our road turn left  onto A37 – follow A37 to Yeovil. At large roundabout by the hospital in Yeovil  follow A30 signed to Sherborne.  Boots Chemist is on the last small roundabout as you leave Yeovil on the right on A30.
